Manages food safety training and auditing programs for Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, and Safari Golf Club.

 

Responsibilities

  • Leads organizational efforts in the area of food safety and sanitation. Builds upon existing internal food safety audit program and conducts weekly food safety and sanitation audits in all food service facilities at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, and Safari Golf Club.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on FDA Food Code and Ohio Uniform Food Safety Code.
  • Verifies daily line checks for all food service locations and follows up on line items that are out of spec.
  • Works directly with regulatory agencies, including Delaware Public Health District Environmental Health unit, Ohio Department of Agriculture, and U.S. Department of Agriculture as needed.
  • Coordinates annual food service licensing renewal applications and regular inspections with appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Coaches, mentors and develops seasonal team members in the area of food safety and sanitation through classroom and on-the-job training as well as one-on-one observation and coaching.
  • Schedules and leads regular ServSafe Food Handler, ODH Person-in-Charge, and ODH Level II Food Safety Manager courses for seasonal and full-time staff.
  • Takes the steps necessary to be in compliance with any and all state, federal, local rules, regulations and/or laws.
  • Maintains courteous, helpful attitude toward customers, answers questions/concerns and communicates knowledge of park events.
  • Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, Safari Golf Club and The Wilds.
  • Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ohio Registered Sanitarian (R.S.), Registered Environmental Health Specialist, OR NEHA Certified Professional in Food Safety (CP-FS) required.
  • ServSafe certification (or comparable) and Ohio Department of Health Level Two Certification in Food Safety required. ServSafe Instructor/Proctor and Ohio Department of Health Level One and Level Two Instructor Certification required within six months of hire.
  • Extensive working knowledge of FDA Food Code and Ohio Uniform Food Safety Code.
  • Two years of experience conducting food safety evaluations.
  • Prior experience teaching or coaching in a food related field strongly preferred.
  • Ability to be a team player with excellent customer service and communication skills required.
  • Ability to relate positively to employees and assist in the facilitation of employee issues.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays required.
  • Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner and without direct supervision required.
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the Make it GREAT standards required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Zoo team members and contacts regarding company business required.
  • Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.
  • Possession of a valid Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license and a good driving record required.
  • Ability to adhere to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and follow-up treatment required.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
